History Of The Hill Stakes
The Hill Stakes was first run in 1921 and saw Beauford take the maiden victory. It was initially a Principal race over 10 furlongs and did not change its format until 1969 when it decreased to nine furlongs, converting to the metric system in 1972 and becoming 1750 metres. In 1991 the Hill Stakes increased to its current distance of 1900 metres and had has remained the same ever since.
