Descarado Stakes Cup Claims with 2010 Hill Stakes Win

Four-year-old Descarado, trained by Gai Waterhouse, staked its claims for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups this spring with a dominant win in the $175,000 Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Charging to the lead in the early stages, Descarado ($5.50) then coasted to victory outclassing the $2.90 favourite Triple Honour to win the 2010 Hill Stakes by a length with the Peter Snowden-trained Purple ($3.70) finishing two and a half lengths further away in third.

Waterhouse will now press on to the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) on October 9 with Descarado attempting to qualify the High Chaparral gelding for the 2010 Caulfield Cup.

Descarado is currently at $21 in the Caulfield Cup markets at Sportsbet and is also a long-shot chance at $41 for the 2010 Melbourne Cup at Flemington on Tuesday November 2.
