2012 Hill Stakes Nominations

September 17th, 2012

The Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) is set to be run at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday September 17.

The race has attracted nominations from fourteen horses, a number of which will be hoping to run in the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup later in the spring.

Included in the Hill Stakes nominations is Stout Hearted who won the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trainer Chris Waller is attempting to qualify the Dynaformer gelding for the 2012 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and a victory in the Hill Stakes will get him one step closer.

Another horse nominated for the Hill Stakes with Caulfield Cup ambitions is Lamasery.

The Commands six-year-old finished third behind Danleigh in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and is better suited to races over 2000m.

Peter Moody is hoping Lights of Heaven can bounce back to form in the Hill Stakes.

Lights of Heaven was considered a strong Cups contender, after an impressive Brisbane Winter Carnival, but has struggled in this campaign.

Lloyd Williams has nominated Midas Touch, Mourayan and Seville for the Hill Stakes.

The race is likely to be the last chance for Midas Touch this campaign as he has beaten home just two horses in his last three races.

Imported eight-year-old Winchester will make his Australian debut in the Hill Stakes.

The multiple US Group 1 winner is already fully qualified for the Melbourne Cup (3200m) and is now being trained by John Sadler.

Also included in the 2012 Hill Stakes nominations are Ginga Dude, Permit, Polish Knight and The Verminator.
