Sixteen runners remain in contention for Saturday’s featured Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Complacent ($3.40) returned to winning form with a scintillating second-up performance a fortnight ago and remains outright favourite in 2015 Hill Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Magic Hurricane ($5.50) and Who Shot Thebarman ($8).
Will Complacent justify favouritism and win the 2015 Hill Stakes or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Who Shot Thebarman ($8)
Who Shot Thebarman is a proven performer over course and distance, will have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run and offers exceptional value for money in Hill Stakes betting markets at current $8 odds. Winner of the 2014 Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m), the Yamanin Vital gelding returned in spring last year for consecutive wins in the Sofitel Girls’ Day Out Handicap (2000m) and Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) before running an impressive third in the Melbourne Cup. Having continued to impressive through autumn this year, Who Shot Thebarman is more than worth consideration for a Hill Stakes bet.
Complacent spent close to two years in the paddock with a string of unfortunate ailments but has returned to racing in particularly slick form this time and is a great chance of a first three finish in the 2015 Hill Stakes. Winning each of the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) before running second in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) through the 2013 Spring Carnival, Complacent clearly needed the run when beating only one opponent home in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up this time but responded in the best way possible when leading from start to finish in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago.
Junoob has returned to competition in typically good form this time and will relish a step-up to 2000m for the 2015 Hill Stakes on Saturday. Posting ten wins and a further eight minors through 39 career starts so far, the son of Haafhd ran seventh in the talent-rich Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap (1400m) first-up on August 15th; mustering a great final straight sprint to finish fifth in the Chelmsford Stakes last time out.
